I still find wired microphones superior to their wireless counterparts. The requirement to use costly, high performance microphones has lessened in recent years as the software has improved. It works "okay" in a pinch or for quietest of environments or when you're not concerned about everyone around you hearing your raised voice to improve recognition. Resist the temptation to rely on your Mac laptop microphone. If you must dictate into Mac OS apps, best solution I have found is cut dictated text from Windows DragonPad or Notepad then switch desktop to Mac environment and paste into Mac OS target application. Your Dragon solution will not dictate into Mac OS native applications, even in Parallels Coherence mode. Still you should expect to set aside 50 GB for a modest installation. This may not be as big of a deal with 1 TB SSD's becoming the norm.
I have not modified my Windows environment as I only use it for targeted applications such as the dictation environment. Fortunately, this is not proven to be an issue and the programs play nicely together. Instead of one application running natively in the Mac environment, you now have an application running in an environment running in an environment running on the native operating system. Possible cost of a microphone if you didn't already have a dictation setup. Windows 10 is variably priced and I believe still legitimately "free" if you know how to find it. You can get it cheaper looking around the usual suspects like eBay. I encourage you to do your own due diligence.) (Disclaimer - this set up may not be HIPAA compliant. You can dictate into an EMR using Citrix connection with one extra transfer step between DragonPad and target field.
Your dictated documents can easily be shared between your Mac and Windows environment. If you use MS office products, the applications and cloud storage are platform agnostic. Sad to say but nice surprise once using the Windows version. Dragon Professional 15 under Windows is a far better product than the Mac offering ever was. Apple's dictation solution is not suitable for serious usage. Short version: best solution for a modern Mac is to run Parallels 15 + Windows 10 + Dragon Professional 15.
